Entrepreneurial Law Programs
Expanding and enhancing intellectual property, high-tech, and entrepreneurial law programs will prepare students to be effective lawyers for emerging companies.
The Entrepreneurs’ Law Clinic (ELC) provides free legal services to startup companies. A primary goal of the clinic is to prepare Santa Clara Law students to be effective lawyers for emerging companies by giving them the opportunity to work with real-life clients under clinical supervision. With additional donor support, the ELC could expand its offerings to include other legal services such as patent prosecution or trademark prosecution, participation in a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office patent and trademark pilot program, as well as additional start-up support including marketing, advertising, business administration, customer focus groups, app development, prototype development, design for manufacturability, and other services. These expanded programs would support the generation of new ideas and companies while also enabling law students to gain valuable experience and insight into the challenges faced by startup companies and entrepreneurs.
