A Values-Based Education
’16, Leadership Excellence and Academic Development Scholar
“The University provides an atmosphere that promotes intellectual curiosity and compassion—a community few universities offer. Looking back on my undergraduate experience, I crossed the commencement stage with something far more valuable than a degree: a transformative experience enriched by the diversity of the student and faculty population. I learned how to learn. My academic curriculum supplemented by experiential learning opportunities pushed me to attain the skills to become a lifelong learner. An inherent problem solver.
“Learning does not stop after we don cap and gown. It continues in professional and social settings throughout life. While I may not be working in my fields of undergraduate study, in my role as a technical sourcer at Pinterest I am successful because Santa Clara University provided me with the skills and confidence to accomplish any task set before me. To achieve beyond my imagination.
“I was the first in my family to attend and graduate from a four-year college or university. As a result of my circumstance, there was a lot of unknown associated with the college search process. And the unknown quickly burgeoned during that first night living in my residence hall. I have to credit the University’s Leadership Excellence and Academic Development Scholars Program for so much of my success. The Program operated as a second family and support group during my four undergraduate years. We shared similar life experiences and ultimately the same feeling of accomplishment the afternoon of our commencement.”
