Inspiring Discovery of Purpose

Professor Korin Wheeler is committed to solving the world’s problems with the heart and mind.

Students enroll in Santa Clara University because they are attracted to an experience that transcends generations. Rigorous academics. Tight-knit community. In the middle of a dynamic metropolis with infinite career opportunities. And timeless Jesuit, Catholic values. This transformational journey that leads to the steps of our commence- ment stage is shepherded by renowned professors committed to elevating the student experience.

Korin Wheeler, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, College of Arts and Sciences: “As faculty of the University, our passion lies in helping students discover purpose—imparting knowledge and confidence to shape the world around them, for good. This is a critical element of the Jesuit, Catholic ethos. Putting others before the self.

“If the University exists to educate men and women for others, think about the potential impact of our graduates in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. We are talking about students equipped with the dual mind-set of an ethics-based academic experience, in the heart of one of the most innovative places on earth—Silicon Valley.

“Within the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences, I am surrounded by a diverse field of teacher-scholars. Faculty who push one another to innovate. People who ensure that students have access to modern instruction methods and cutting-edge instrumentation. Community builders. So often we ask our students, ‘You have all of this knowledge: What will you do with it?’ The response is harmonious: ‘Create a better tomorrow.’

“To support the campaign is to support a worldwide network of alumni, faculty, and students committed to solving problems with the heart and mind. Something the world needs now more than ever.”

The Sobrato Campus for Discovery and Innovation will house engineering and natural science departments, along with Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship. The vision will come to fruition as a state-of-the-art teaching, learning, and research environment.
